ADECCOIndia, one of the leading HR services firm is on a major expansion mode with plans to double its branch network by the end of this year and this foray will largely be into the tier 2 &3 cities.
Adecco India currently has 40 branches and Plans are to touch 80 by the end of 2010 with the first 20 being opened by March 1. 2010. Sudhakar Balakrishnan, MD, Adecco India, believes that larger number of sectors like FMCG, retail, telecom will be moving more aggressively into the tier 2 &3 dties throwing up the need for more number of skilled workforce.
This expansion by Adecco India will be largely directed towards the temp workforce as more number of companies are looking at this flexibility option. According to Mr Balakrishnan, "the penetration levels of temping in the Indian organized employment market is still insignificant, a very small percentage Compared to the penetration levels in the developed economies."
Adecco India dosed the year 2009 with 75,000 people on its rolls and the industry expectation is the temping workforce segment could see around ' 30%growth during the current calendar year. For the HR services firm, this could also mean that it would have a greater expansion in the blue collar temp workforce as hitherto, recruitment was largely in the white collar space. At the same time, Adecco India is actively looking at inorganic options as part of it growth plan. Mr Sudhakar said that they are in active talks with a couple of players and are quite close to making an acquisition.
Adecco made its foray into India by acquiring majority stake in Peopleone Consulting in 2004. It
later converted it into a wholly owned subsidiary in 2007. It also acquired Pune-based industrial
staffing firm Ajinkya in February 2008 for an undisclosed sum.
